These days I am working with a group of independent artists to make a music video for the track “LOOKin for” from my MuLATTO MADness album release in 2019.
It’s important for me to make this video because hip hop needs more representation from queer Black womxn. This video will increase my visibility, allow me to level up as an artist, and spread my message of justice and equality. You can help me achieve that.
I need your help to create a breath-taking music video that will help boost my visibility as an artist. Our team will need 3485 EUR / $4125 to cover the different stages of production. The funding will go towards renting the location, renting the camera & lighting equipment, producing, editing, promoting the video, and compensating the crew. We will submit the video to festivals such as the Berlin Music Video Awards, and local electronic music and feminist publications such as Groove and Missy Magazine.
I heavily considered not running a crowdfunding campaign in the height of a global pandemic because the thought of asking people for money during a time when they may have lost their job or gotten sick made me feel selfish. However, artists always need to find financial support in order to create and the pandemic doesn't change that fact. Additionally, I believe that struggling with mental health, which is the underlying theme conveyed in the "LOOKin for" video, is a condition that so many people can relate to and it is important to make it part of the conversation, especially during Corona times.
